The Next Generation movies are not quite as dramatic as the TV series. Nevertheless, continuing ST:TNG universe through movies is welcome. Unfortunately the movies aren't given the true remaster treatment the series is getting so the picture quality is a bit better than that of the DVD but far from what they could be on Blu-ray (just compare images of Enterprise from remastered series vs. the movies). Audio is much better with immersive Dolby TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack (Holodeck scenes, Borg & Reman attacks sound especially engaging). On the other hand the extras for each movie are fantastic and abundant and will bring pure joy to any Trekker. As a bonus there is an additional blu-ray disc with new materials of which I think the most valuable are features acting as farewell to now closed Las Vegas' attraction Star Trek: The Experience. A definite buy, at least for extras!

The actual films have been reviewed elsewhere many times, so this review will just be about the blu-ray versions. I expect many of you already have the DVDs from years ago, and like me are faced with the decision of whether or not to bother upgrading to Blu-ray. For me the verdict is an unequivocal yes - great transfer, picture quality and special effects. If you are a fan this a very worthwhile purchase.
