If you are a fan of the Jon Pertwee Doctor, then this is THE storyline for you. One of the best in this series. It comes in a nice boxset and contains both Peladon stories. The picture and sound quality are OK for its age.
Another addition to the Jon Pertwee years as the doctor although between the two series there is a change of companion, Katy Manning appears in The curse of Peladon, and is replaced by Elizabeth Sladen in The monster of Peladon, However these were not consecutive tales, Both series feature the ice warriors, and there is a twist in the nature of the ice warriors between the two titles. Not perhaps as intense with special effects as the new series of Dr Who currently being screened, but for its time pretty amazing, with digitally remastered sound and pictures, worth every penny if you remember this season from many years ago, pure nostalgia.
Peladon tales is a long overdue release by the BBC and is much welcomed by Dr Who fans everywhere. It contains two of the stories based on the planet of Peladon - 'The Curse of Peladon' and 'The Monster of Peladon' which was set quite cleverly 50 years later. Its simply 70's Dr Who at its best. It features the glamourous third doctor Jon Pertwee (my favourite) in his wonderful attire of velvet smoking jackets and frilly shirts to go with his sonic screwdriver. Both stories by Brian Hayles were brilliantly produced by the BBC Dr Who team and remain two of the most memorable ever. The Monster of Peladon (with Sarah Jane Smith - its amazing how young she still looks today) was shown in 1974 and was the last time one of Dr Who's greatest monsters were last seen - watch it to find out who! Clue: they came from Mars. Both stories have a wonderful array of aliens both good and bad. When Monster of Peladon was shown Jon Pertwee's tenure as Doctor Who was coming to end and I can still remember the BBC1 continuity announcer saying it was Jon Pertwee's penultimate story. If you have never seen both stories you will remember them for a long time - just like me!
