The show's great, everything else...

Avatar: The Legend of Aang is a great show. Unfortunately, it's also designated a 'kids show'. As such, we have to put up with the 'effort' people give the DVD sets of such viewing fair, the standards of which are ridiculously low. The first thing wrong with the DVD is that the people who did the cover art have clearly never seen the show in their lives. The only characters shown are Aang, and Sokka on one of the disks, although you'd never guess from the character design, which shows him in warrior dress half in shadow with a grimace on his face. For those who don't know, this is the comic relief. (Well, that's a simplification, he's a well rounded character, but he is definitely the funny one of the group). Also, the disks are badly packaged, and are both difficult to remove and impossible to put back in. Instead of just a few cursory ads and then the title menu, you have to sit through dozens of adverts for Spongebob Squarepants and other Nickelodeon shows. However, they allow you skip that and go to the root menu, which is something at least. However, you better press play quickly, otherwise you'll get treated to a slideshow of all the important scenes in the series. The language options are limited and there's nothing in the way of bonus content. On the plus side, the episodes are completely intact, and you don't have to wait for the stupid network to put it out. What would make this set a whole lot better would be if it was a box set featuring the series The Legend of Korra, and a grovelling apology from Nickelodeon for still not broadcasting the show in this country.
