The series in my opinion is based far to loosely on the book. the two main catalysts in the book: Porters alcoholism and his homelessness were either not featured at all or merely touched upon lightly. Richard armitage as porter was a masterstroke of sky it was as if the role was tailor made for him, May be a bit too much torso nudity for my liking but I suppose if you spent many months doing extreme training like he did to bulk up his muscles you`d show them off as well. In most cases I read the book then the film/tv series but in this case I would strongly recommend watching Strike Back before reading it because I found myself thinking too much about the bits that were missed out. If you have read the novel I would pretend it is a totally different entity from the series otherwise like me you will be sorely disappointed. I began to enjoy it from episode 3 onwards because they became much more adventurous. gore was not heavily featured which was a bonus too me. So on the whole a v enjoyable series so long as you pretend the book has nothing to do with it
