I watched this Foyles War series on PBS TV here in Canada. It is an excellent series, and shows the other side of WW2, with the kind Foyle handling situations with skill and compassion, while dealing with the loss of his son. Now that I have it on DVD I can watch it over and over, at will.
I don't watch a lot of DVDs and TV but I just fancied Foyle's War. I have enjoyed every minute of it. It's full of first class stories, all of which are enjoyable. It's unique among detective stories because of its WWII background and great characters.
I started watching this programme a few weeks ago, just as the series was about to finish - and was sorry to discover that I had missed about fifteen episodes. I found them so good and such compulsive viewing that I immediately ordered the box set . They are so well written, and so gently acted by all the cast, that one feels as though you are the only person watching them. I was delighted to hear today that having cancelled the series a few years ago someone has decided to resurrect it for three more episodes, bringing in espionage but still maintaining the war-time atmosphere, I understand. I was born right at the end of the war, but always find a series like this seems to explain what it was like - giving me an idea of what I missed.
I have not taken the cellophane wrappers off the set as yet as it is a Christmas present for her indoors but I have no reason to believe it is not in perfect condition. We have watched some episodes on television and found them absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately they put on a few more on TV last week so I could still be in trouble when it comes to the grand opening. Wish me luck
