Silent Hill is back!

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Silent Hill is an old horror series that was on the PS1 and PS2. After the bad 4th chapter and the so, so 5th. Silent Hill: Downpour is finally a very good episode. It's disturbing with a good story and good subquests. It's both entertaining and beautiful to see!

Review of Silent Hill: Downpour

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

I've been a fan of Silent Hill since the first game was released and I really enjoyed Downpour. It's not without it's faults ( the main issues being some poor monster design and some problems with the game lagging now and then ), but for me the good outweighed the bad and I thought it was well worth playing. It has a good story and protagonist, lots of exploration, a good amount of interesting side-quests, nice creepy atmosphere ( though without the rusty feel of earlier games ), a nice handful of gameplay moments where it plays some unexpected mind-games with you, and a large range of items scattered around the environments which can be used as melee weapons. I'd recommend it to people who like a good story, exploration and survival horror in general.

Review of Silent Hill: Downpour

The game itself is excellent, one of the best Silent Hill games to come out in recent years. It does unfortunately have some glitches but nothing that makes it unplayable. Well worth a look.

I really enjoyed the game although there are aspects if it that could be improved upon. The side quests were fun too.

A decent addition to the Silent Hill Story

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

Although not overly difficult, I did enjoy this latest helping of silent hill, In fact has the closest feeling to that of the original silent hill than any other of its sequels. Not very long though, I managed to plat this in just 5 days, which involves a minimum of three runs through the game. There's a little bit of lag from time to time also.

Great game/Bad Glitches

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

I get really scared at certain games, Project Zero, Amnesia, and Silent Hill. Yet being scared so easily is what makes me love these types of games. This game does not disappoint, even my friend who isn't easily scared, gets freaked out going through dark caverns with screamers jumping on his back from nowhere. It does what Resident Evil fails to do, which is to be a survival horror game. Edging through doorways and round corners slowly, with your only weapon being a wrench or a rock, just to be presented with an enemy double your size running around the ceilings. Eerie! The only thing that lets this game down are the glitches. There are 2 that I've come across so far that are close to game-breaking. One is where it will randomly freeze/jolt for a few seconds, probably because of the lack of loading screens, I'm not sure. The second is getting stuck on the corner of things, especially stairs. There is nothing more frustrating than running from an enemy to get stuck on the corner of the stairs and get attacked/killed. Glitches aside, its a brilliant game, and a huge game, there are so many areas in this game, I haven't even reached the town yet, along with all side quests there is plenty of eerie game-play to go around. They are working on a patch for the PS3 for the freezing glitch, so there isn't really any reason to not try it, especially for this low price.

A good survival horror game

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

I don't see why this game got such low reviews (64/100 on Metacritic). Just because this game isn't like the older Silent Hill games, doesn't mean it is bad. It is a very good game, with an interesting story and good gameplay. The new combat system is quite good too, although annoying at times. I would have liked to see more variety in the monsters, but regardless it is still a very enjoyable game to play. The music is also top notch, composed by the same person who makes the music for the TV series Dexter - this of course means it gives a different feel to the game. If you are looking for an enjoyable survival horror game, Silent Hill fan or not, this is a good buy.

Silent Hill: Downpour Review

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

If you like survival horror, and you like Silent Hill, you will like this game. The experience of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 will not be reproduced--because they already exist, and doing so would be to remake those games. By playing Downpour you will see for yourself how good this game is. Definitely worth buying.
