Mindjack is a 3rd person shooter which has an interesting enough gimmick that makes it worth a purchase. Putting aside the 'mindjacking' for a moment, the game is pretty entertaining as is - the graphics, sound and gameplay are solid. Reviewers have been very harsh; I am not sure why they have been so negative as although nothing great is achieved (and it is probably not worth the 50 quid it launched for), there is nothing horrible here. To be frank, it plays at least as well as Mass Effect which also shares polished graphics but a rather clunky feeling to movement. The only irritant is poor AI, but this is bearable and not a gamebreaker. Now the highlight! - the mindjacking! - this makes the game incredibly good fun. Imagine - you are pinned down by heavy fire. Desperately returning fire, you can see the writing is on the wall. But wait! There is a harmless looking 12 year old girl behind your attackers! At the touch of a button you take over her body and somewhat implausibly she pulls out a shotgun and launches a devastating suicide run against your attackers, killing herself in the process but taking enough heat off your main character to survive the trouble. Moments like these range from the hilarious to the majestic and make the admission fee worth paying. On the whole, mindjacking is a game that is both fun and flawed in equal measure - it deserves a role in the 'fun for a tenner' quality range.
