This is simply a GOOD film, not great, just good. A bit of a shame as it could have been excellent. I'm sure some of you will disagree. Fans of Jean Reno (Leon and Ronin) and arguably modern French films, will find enough here to like. The story, acting and sparse action and drama is all quite good, led by Reno. Nothing new, but what it does it does well. This French action film follows an ex-gangster from Marseille who is shot 22 times and left for dead. He loves classical music and after attempts to finish him off in hospital, he seeks out the answers of why and who wants to kill him, embarking on a new family war. It is very French and unfortunately not as good as Mesrine,Taxi, 36, Mr 73 etc, it all feels for me that without Reno it would be much worse and it isn't gangster enough. It is probably aiming at a wider audience. Not enough action at first and slow to get going: Reno playing Godfather springs to mind, harsh for some this will read, but Reno and co are capable of better, this is 2010.
