As usual, a great blu ray release from Arrow. Plenty of extras and the film looks great. Just be aware this isn't the slipbox version as it appears from the picture, but the standard blu ray release, which it still excellent, but a bit misleading on Zavvi's part. That's why this gets 4 stars and not 5. Extras: Alternate Italian cut of the film Original Mono Audio Audio commentary with Tim Lucas, author of Mario Bava: All the Colors of the Dark Argento! Bava! Bava's Slasher Prototype

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Among Italian horror filmmaker Mario Bava's greatest achievements was this mischievous, a humorous splatter movie in which an ensemble cast of duplicitous characters violently strive to get their greedy mitts on a handsome property. Hugely influential in the evolution of the American slasher movie, this has grisly moments later recycled by better-known films, notably Friday The 13th part 2, which directly lifts at least two death scenes from A Bay Of Blood. It's nimbly paced, with a gruesome demise every ten minutes or so, and revels in the kind of disorientating narrative twists and turns that became standard in the wake of Wes Craven's Scream.

Giallo galore with twists en masse.

3 stars out of a maximum of 5

The story moves at a steady pace and you might miss some of the many plot twists within the plot twists along the way (and the killing) because it seems like a free-for-all killing party. The final reveal isn't as great as the ones before it and I got a bit tired of the whole subplots along the way. Fans of Giallofilms get to enjoy it, though. The cover is a bit missleading because it might suggest a creature feature but it is a scene in the movie. I liked the overacting cast, since it's an Italian production. The kills are mostly quite grizzly and the effects look great (like the part suggested on the cover - I got some shivers there!). The sound and picture are awesome for such an old movie and I enjoyed it even with it's story flaws. You should watch it if you like Giallo films and stay away if you want easy Slasherpartytime.

A Bay of Blood - Product Review

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

Arrow has again knocked it clean out of the ball park with this release of Bava's proto-slasher masterpiece. Great packaging, generous extras on the disc, and a great, clean transfer of the English language release version. My only complaint was the fact that the Italian language version supplied on this blu-ray didn't receive the same attention to detail as the dubbed English version. Otherwise, still a great product purchase, and Zavvi once again came in under-time on the delivery. Thanks guys.
