Even though I have not played Mass Effect 1 or 2, Mass Effect 2 puts you in the forefront of the trilogy that is fun to play. The multiplayer is awesome and the story is even better! The are "Codexes" in the game which give you an insight into the previous edition, so you need not be afraid to play the entire series just to experience this one. Buy it!

I haven't even finished Mass Effect 3 yet, but it has already broke even. I believe you have to have played Mass Effect 2 to get the most out of it though, otherwise, it's like watching the last season of a really good TV show without seeing the ones before it. Overall though, brilliant game. Absolutely love it, and definitely recommend it.

Mass Effect 3 is an absolutely epic sci-fi shooter, but I feel ashamed to describe it as that, because it is so much more! I definitely recommend it.
