Overall pretty good

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, even though i was not really sure I wanted to watch it, as it's not usually my type of thing. I remember seeing a documentary in the past about this plot and found the movie to be as interesting as the documentary.

I have now seen a couple of Valkyrie documentaries, and this is definitely the best. For a start, there are no cheesey re enactments, everything is either genuine archive or location shooting. Who wants to see someone pretending to be Tom Cruise pretending to be Stauffenburg? It takes the whole history of the German Resistance and lets us consider Operation Valkyrie within its proper context. It also provides a clear guide to the major conspirators together with a brief overview of their lives and their motivations for involvement. There is also a coda dedicated to the harsh reprisals that Hitler exacted from those he considered disaffected with the Nazis. There's even a decent extra, not some irrelevant rubbish that's been seen again and again and slung on just to make weight. This is an interview with the man who's written Countdown to Valkyrie, the most recent work on the subject, Nigel Jones.
