The American is an absolutely superb movie featuring a tremendous performance from Clooney. It's a refreshing change to watch a contemporary film which doesn't rely on dramatic soundtracks and big explosions. This film reminds me of some of the classic movies made in the 60s such as the jackel where excellent acting creates the drama and tension which grips you from the beginning. This film is full of twists and turns and if you like those classic 1960s films which portray emotion and drama, you'll love this! Highly recommended and a great price at Zavvi!

the american is directed by Aton Corbijn of whom directed a wide varitey of music videos and limited films such as "control" and "linear".The American is an adaptation of the 1990 novel "A VERY PRIVATE GENTLEMAN" of which from this novel the monochrome character is "Clooney"through out this beautiful picture.The cinematography is a beautiful back drop on the outside while on the inside clooney creates a labour of love with the mechanics of a weapon which he treats as a female with the gentle touch of a private person such as he.This movie for me is has a resemelence to the "conversation" so for the die hard fan this wiil thrill thee.
