The Fighter is a film that I enjoyed from start to finish. The story is very good, the actors excellent, and it's one to watch more than once.

Excellent performances from Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale showing the journey for Micky Ward (Wahlberg) in his boxing career which appeared to be over. Great story with Micky overcoming family complications which had been hindering his chances.

The Fighter stars Mark Wahlberg as Mickey Ward, an Irish-American welterweight boxer living in Massachusetts with his family. Mickey is on the verge of making it big, but the inconsistency of his brother/trainer Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale) and his mother/manager Alice (Melissa Leo) have Mickey wondering if his situation might be better off separated from his drama-filled family. After a few lopsided defeats, Mickey decides to move away from his family and manage his own career (which is only compounded by Dicky getting arrested for drug use, stealing and attempted prostitution). Mickey eventually finds success in both professional and personal life alongside his girlfriend Charlene (Amy Adams). But when Dicky is released from prison just in time for Mickey’s big title fight, Mickey has to decide where his true loyalties lie. In its essence, The Fighter is Mickey’s story as he overcomes the family issues that have (apparently) plagued him his whole life. But upon further inspection, I would venture The Fighter is just as much about Dicky overcoming addiction as it is Mickey overcoming the odds.

Worth A Watch

The Fighter was compared to Rocky. I must say, it isn't as good as Rocky, but it's worth a watch. Mark Wahlberg plays a great part, and Christian Bale is outstanding as Micky Ward's brother!
