PREPARE TO DIE

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Dark Souls is the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls, which is probably the most difficult game I've ever played. It's a third person action RPG that is both epic and beautiful, with a wonderfully crafted world that offers players a heavy challenge from the outset. The combat is fluid and never feels cumbersome, and offers a great deal of scope for different styles of play. Even the first enemy you meet can kill you, and death is never far away. When you do die, and you will, FREQUENTLY, any soul power (the currency for both levelling up and buying stuff) isn't lost and you have a chance to retrieve it. That is if you can make it back to your body before you die again. It makes you genuinely careful about your progress, and you never run into an area with your sword arm swinging. Add to this an interesting story, and online features that allows other players to be summoned to your world to help, or to invade your world to kill you, and you've got a really great game that you'll happily spend hours dying in. I'm about 50 hours into my first playthrough, and I'll definitely play through it again. This is probably my pick for game of the year, last year.

Dark Souls - Money worth it?

3 stars out of a maximum of 5

First at all I have to admit im no great fan of RPGs on the console, but this game is rly unplayable for me. Its obvious that this game requires alot of skill and you have to improve your charackter step by step with new items and stuff. But this game is way to hard in my opinion. You will spent hours to read the effects of ur items and to figure out what they even DO.... Many items have no description and you just need to waste them to find out what they really do... The story sounds interesting and you feel very forced to keep on playing to see what happens. The big WOW in the game is in my opinion the VERY skill based battle system with block, avoiding attacks and counterattacks. On the otherside a big - is the rly rly old looking graphics... The whole game looks pretty old if you compare it to currently new rpg title aka Final Fantasy. For big RPG fans this game is must have - Alone the very different classes aquires shiiitloads of skill... But in the end you need to figure out if this game fits you requirements. Blairhexor out!

Wow, Dark Souls is such a hardcore RPG game. Geat experience, if you like huge fantasy, this game is for you, longs nights fighting with skeletons and collecting souls. Is there a game harder than Dark Souls? doubt it.

Brilliant game!

Dark Souls is incredibly difficult and at times frustrating, but a game with some real challenge is a breath of fresh air when nowadays you can win almost any game by mashing your controller against your face. Do not play this game if you want a stroll through the park!

Essential Game

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Dark Souls is without a doubt the most important game to have come out on consoles in the last 10 years. An unforgiving beast of a game where the player is constantly forced to make tough decisions about when to save their game. This game is the definitive RPG and everything Skyrim and the like wish they could be. No endless walking around, no time consuming cut scenes, just pure nail biting tension and the boss battles will take your breath away.

Great Game

Dark Souls is hard but it isn't difficult to the point of impossibility. I found it a lot of fun to test my own abilities. Buy it and see for yourself!

An awesome and challenging game! Very nice gameplay and universe. A bit hard to start with, but when you get the mechanics it is a real pleasure! A must have for all the old school gamers, who are not afraid of dying and retrying!

Dark's Souls

Prepare to enter a world dominated by darkness. Your only friends will be your shield and your blade. Chaos and darkness surround you: are you ready to survive? Are you ready to die? Dark Souls, despite being produced in Japan, looks like a very western RPG. Character customization is complete, and the player chooses which and how many skills to improve. Many find Dark Souls extremely difficult, as it doesn't forgive the mistakes players make through insufficient planning. But I can assure you that you will want to try again and again. There is not a great deal of dialogue but apart from this minor flaw it offers a great combat system, epic battles with huge bosses and truly unforgettable atmosphere.

Enter a beautiful world of horror and despair

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

I was somewhat afraid of Dark Souls since it's known for its harsh difficulty. After playing it for many hours I must say that is difficult but fair. In most cases you alone are responsible for your death. If you get too cunning or sloppy even the most harmless enemies will rip you apart. Dark Souls is a very atmospheric game. Like in a good survival horror game you'll always have feelings of constant danger looming above you. It's hard, but it's rewarding. It's scary and creepy but also has moments of sublime beauty. The characters you meet often have a tragic story tell. Dark Souls definitely isn't a game for everyone. But RPG-fans and gamers who like Survival Horror should really give it a try.
