Battle: Los Angeles is a by-the-numbers US Marines eulogy. The Sergeant is about to retire after losing all his men in action. His commanding officer freezes in combat (but redeems himself by turning himself into a human bomb). The brother of one of the lost troops is under the Sergeant's command, leading to 'conflict' as he tries to establish his worth in the eyes of his men. Then Michelle Rodriguez turns up for no reason. Innumerable other clichés, all of which you could pick from any Hollywood depiction of the US Marines. The aliens are completely irrelevant. It's quite shocking how lazily thought-out this film is Apart from the scripting, the film is well-crafted and if you like films about how tough (read: sentimental) the US Marines are, then no doubt you will enjoy this.
Battle: Los Angeles is a great action movie. Using the Marines perspective of events added to the atmosphere. Well worth it.
I didn't expect much going into Battle: Los Angeles. It's fine for a action flick when there isn't much else to watch, but it isn't a masterpiece and doesn't have a huge rewatch value. It's like an ordinary War movie but with aliens thrown in as enemies instead of people.
