This seminal 80's horror film arrives on Blu Ray with a wealth of extras including never before seen photos, commentaries and documentaries, yet when it comes to the film itself, given its age and the fact that it was once noted as a 'Video Nasty' back in the day, I felt it kind of paled in comparison to other classics of the era such as The Evil Dead. I think what kind of holds this film together is the fact that it's competently well acted and there is some general suspense in parts which make you wonder if they are going to get out of The Funhouse alive, but when the film does spark into life (and before that happens there are some slow parts), you're left shaking your head and wondering why this was ever called a 'Video Nasty', as there's not much in the way of 80's nastiness to enjoy here and nothing to make you jump out of your skin. It may have been good in its day, but doesn't stand the test of time like the classic horrors of the 80's and is about as scary as an episode of Postman Pat. In short, The Funhouse is like the Ghost Train you find in your local funfair. It's an experience that you'll have a laugh at, you might even jump a bit, but it's not scary and it won't make you want to ride it again.
