not as good

I always loved Ninja Gaiden back in the 90th when it was released on the SNES and NES, but this game is not as good az the oldiest are (not were). But it is still a fun to play the story of Ryu :)

Ninja Gaiden 3 was the first ninja Gaiden game I've played. All the other ones look too tedious for me. But my brother bought this game and it looked interesting, so I gave it a go and was mostly surprised by it. From what I can tell they strayed away from the previous games and took a new approach. I understand that most of these changes would probably make a lot of older fans mad. The changes include things like less weapons, quick time events, no costumes, and basically nothing special outside the story. Also they gave Ryu more of a character. From the little scenes I've seen of the previous games, Ryu felt like a blood lustful killer guy who slays monsters and demons for no real reason. In this game they gave him a lot more dialogue and a softer side. I couldn't picture the previous Ryu talking nice to a little girl. This might make a lot of old fans disappointed. I understand the feeling (Metroid: other M). As for me I like the new Ryu. Also the game has online multiplayer, but I haven't touched it as I'm not much of a multiplayer guy. I was able to beat the game in little under a week. It feels like I might give it another go. It seems like one of those games that has a lot of replay value. Okay I've said the things I liked about the game. Now for the cons. As I said there are no extras what so ever. There is a new sword DLC but as far as I know there will only be two new weapons. Compared to the number of weapons in the last games that is a big downgrade. Also, you only play as Ryu. I was hoping you could play as others such as Ayane. And the difficulty: I played on normal mode. Not too hard. But if you lose consecutively a number of times you get a choice of lowering the difficulty, but be warned; if you do this you'll be unable to raise it in the future. I believe this game was kind of like a Beta for a new Ninja Gaiden franchise, as if they took a new approach and wanted to see how the fans responded. I bet some time next year there will be a Ninja Gaiden 3 Sigma that is all of Ninja Gaiden 3 but with all the things fans complained about fixed. More weapons, Nippon, costumes, etc. Last thoughts: If you have never played a Ninja Gaiden game, then give this one a chance. If you have, come in with an open mind and know this won't be like your previous games. I'm sure if you can look past the faults it will be a fun game. Worst case just wait for the price to go down a bit, judging by the reviews it won't be long... PROs: + "Steel on Bone" is visceral and brutal + Awesome sound design and soundtrack + NES Ninja Gaiden references + Engaging combat system + Plenty of memorable moments CONs: - Repetitive waves of enemies (more evident on Hard mode) - Some bland environments - Lack of Chapter Select - Lazy PS Move Controls - Camera still finicky

Ninja Gaiden 3

I really enjoyed Ninja Gaiden 3 as it has an excellent story that Ninja Gaiden fans like myself will love, and continues on pretty much where Ninja Gaiden 2 left off. The only bad thing about this game would be the lack of weapon choice as you have to use a sword throughout the whole game, which is quite annoying, but all in all a great game, especially for die hard fans! :)
