A jewel that shall be in your collection

You just need to play Catherine for a couple of hours to fall deeply in love. A very interesting story mixed with good and stressful puzzles. Just give it a chance!

Been waiting for this to come down in price since its initiall release. Soon as I saw Zavvi had reduced then I swiftly purchased. Not disappointed with Catherine at all. Yes it's strange, but also very originally in its concept and delivery. Catherine offers a unique experience which many will find initially confusing, but if you stick with it then the experience is a rewarding one unlike many other games. The look and art direction are typically Japanese, but the themes are universal and the moral decisions you make in the games are like reall life. Give it a try and you will be surprised and delighted.

Catherine Review

Being a huge fan of the Persona series, I simply had to check out what Atlus' Persona series were up to, and I am glad to say that they have delivered once again. As with almost all Atlus games, Catherine is a very unique experience. Part of its charm comes from its very adult oriented story which deals with some of the problems of the modern lifestyle and moral issues therein. But really the meat of the experience is in Catherine's unique gameplay unlike any other that I have seen before. This is a brand new take on block based puzzle solving that will really challenge your cognitive abilities. Even on the easy difficulty this game is no laughing matter, towards the end you will be challenged to think outside the box and will likely have to go through a lot of trial and error. The normal difficulty is what most people will call the "freaking hard" difficulty and if you are downright masochistic or some kind of mega-genius, the hard difficulty is for you. So make sure you choose the correct difficulty for yourself. Finally once you have finished the story mode you will have the ability to play in a new mode which allows you to solve harder and harder puzzles by yourself, cooperatively with a friend or competitively against them. All in all, Catherine is a very unique package that gamers looking for something new should experience.

Very Good

Catherine is very good, it seems like a movie where you can get up to 8 different finals with your decisions. I enjoy playing it very much and also the block-game is very fun and pretty challenging.

English voices with Spanish subtitles (Optional). Great game, Its a lot of fun. Combines hard block puzzles with anime-like video scenes.

If you love Manga, and appreciate puzzles for what they are, then this is an incredible game. It's very different to anything else I've tried on the Xbox 360 before, so it's a welcome breath of fresh air. It has a great learning curve, and the presentation of it all, is top notch. It's more of a suggestive game than anything else, just for those of you that were hoping for full nudity, or something more close-to-the-line. But, as a total experience, it's totally worth it. I definitely recommend it.

Interactive anime film? Dating sim? Old-school block puzzler? There isn't really a set genre for the game, Catherine, and on paper I admit, it doesn't make much sense. However, the style and finesse evident throughout this title manages to bring these diverse aspects together, to produce an excellent package that is certainly unlike anything I've ever played before. Spending the evening drinking with friends, leisurely replying to text messages, and maybe having a quick blast on the arcade machine, make for relaxed downtime between the nightmares plaguing many of the game's characters. These nightmares provide the actual challenge of this game, and by the time each harrowing night is done, you'll be ready to get back in the pub again. The nightmare sections, although presented with flair, hark back to the early days of gaming, as you struggle to overcome the various puzzles, whilst keeping ahead of an ever-encroaching danger. At times it feels almost like an old scrolling shooter, as you die over and over, learning the level, the location of baddies and power-ups, and eventually piecing it all together, to make it to the end of the level intact. Aside from the actual play content, the art style is fabulous, there's some minor, but innovative use of online access, and there's even some clever meta-comment, on the meaningless gaming tropes found within the puzzle sections. If you like japanimation, with an over-the-top sense of drama, and don't mind a game that will have you swearing out loud in frustration, then Catherine will certainly stick with you for a long time. Just try not to dream of blocks...

Brilliant!

Catherine is one of the best examples of video game as a medium to tell stories and make the player think about life. The game is rather hard, but the player is so taken into the story that the player will stick at it.

I wanted this game as soon as it came out in the UK. And it was worth the wait. It has a amazing story and good voice acting. What I would expect from the people who made Persona. highly recommend!
