I've been playing mmos for several years now . I started with World of Warcraft and since then I've played pretty much every major mmo thats been released in that time . Generally speaking mmos are all very similar in that they have quest you must complete , usually these involve finding something or someone , killing X amount of things or escorting or delivering something somewhere . All these type of quests pre-dated WoW so its a bit unfair to call this a WoW-clone because Warcraft in itself was a clone of what came before it . Having said that you'll be on familar territory here . Its not a paticulary difficult game monsters (mobs) are about as easy to kill as in WoW which I found to be a little to easy for me . The thing is you get a companion in this game and thats what makes it easy BUT you can send him on missions to collect crafting gear which leaves you to quest alone and makes the game a whole lot more fun . Of course on a PVP server you will probably want to keep him with you because you ll be attact by players of the opposing faction What makes ToR different from mmos that have come before it is its got a very strong story . Each class has its own starter zone and follows a different story and thus if you roll an alt you wont do many of the same quests twice . So its no more linear than WoW . Graphically its quite cartooney but appealing . It may not appeal to people that like photo realistic graphics . Also it can be played on most mid range computers with relativly decent fps . Combat is fluid and the interface will familar to people that have previously played mmos . Community wise its pretty friendly compared to Warcraft which has quite an immature population in comparison . People help you out if you ask in general and dont come back with stupid or condescending answers . Its not like a virtual school yeard with 12 year old kids calling each other names in chat . PVP is pretty much stand battle ground /warfront/scenario type fair . With the exception of a virtual sport Hutball . which is fast paced and fun . I cant comment on the endgame because like most people I'm still leveling but from what I've seen thus far it is the best mmo to be released since World of Warcraft and on many levels surpasses it . Theres a reason its the fastest selling mmo of all time . Its very polish and highly enjoyable . But like anything its not perfect and theres things that could be improved upon and given its huge success probably will be very quickly . All I can say is try it .Its a lot of fun .

The Old Republic

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Possibly the best game ever released, Star Wars The Old Republic allows the player to immerse themselves within a realistic world developed by BioWare. Players choose to be either good (jedi) or evil (sith), with 4 classes to choose from. Each class has its own separate storyline which allows for a second play through to be more enjoyable and less repetitive. Do not let the monthly fee deter you, for the gameplay is definitely worth it. Being able to complete missions with friends is rewarding as well as amusing. Easily one of the best games I have played, and I will even admit it rivals Skyrim (which is a bold statement!).

An interesting take on the MMORPG genre

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

Star Wars: The Old Republic introduces the concept of class stories which means that each of the 8 playable classes in the game has their own unique story. They accomplish this by making said stories phased, so that only the appropriate class can enter his/her quest area. SWTOR also is the first MMORPG to be fully voiced so that every quest that you receive will have a dialogue between your character and the NPC giving the quest. Much like any MMORPG you have 2 playable factions: The Galactic Republic and The Sith Empire, each with 4 classes. At level 10 each of these classes can choose an advanced class meaning that each faction has in truth a total of 8 classes. Also as a novelty you have dialogue options which steer you towards the Dark/Light side which enable you to wear gear restricted to one side or other. This concept also changes the story depending on which side you choose. As a conclusion I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys playing MMORPGs, but also to the people who played KOTOR I and II since there are references to those games throughout the story.

Star Wars at it's best

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Are you a fan of Star Wars ? IF so you, you really should think about buying this game. My friend bought it and I was stunned with everything Bioware has put inside this game. The game really has sort of "leveled up" everything we saw in previous MMO games. The game is really balanced, and the great plus in this game, is that your character has a story and a fully voice covered one. The story's are really great, I already have a ton of alts and will be playing them all to max level, just to see how the story ends. But this doesn't mean that if you ain't a SW fan, you won't enjoy this game. Trust me you will. The game is almost perfect, and I think in the next few updates it will be perfect. Go on, what are you waiting for, you know you want it :)

Evolution of the genre

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

I've spent around 3 weeks with this game so far and I'm loving every moment of it. Although at first glance it doesn't seem like a big improvement on existing MMORPGs, underneath the hood awaits you a surprise. After experiencing fully voiced dialogs for the first time in an MMO, there is no turning back to standard quest boxes and text. The class stories are amazing and truly imersive, and usual grinding side quests are not such a pain anymore. There is a lot of content, both PVE and PVP, with more warzones and improvements announced very soon. Although the game isn't without flaws, the fact is it had probably the most stable MMO launch in history and it seems the team behind is commited to improving it every day. I think the game deserves a chance, it basically just came out and in a few months it will be even more superb than it is.
