It's not exactly a remake of the much loved 1980s horror comedy, this version stars Colin Farrell as the vampire next door to Anton Yelchin's nervous neighbour. The set up is the same, neighbour discovers the guy who's moved in next door is offing members of the local community, but utilises modern filmaking techniques for this update. Toni Collette, Imogen Poots and Christopher Mintz-Plasse fill out the supporting cast in a knockabout romp which never takes itself too seriously, although David Tennant is no match for the original's Roddy McDowall's vampire hunter.

Being a big fan of the original Fright Night, I approached this with caution, however, I was greatly surprised to find it actually very good. The biggest fear I had was Colin Farrell as I'm not his biggest fan, but on viewing, it was his performance itself which enchanted me the most. His modern interpretation of Dandridge is different to Sarandons (who has a cameo), and it has a real animal quality to it, subtle eye movements etc. really add to his role so well done there. The other actors are fine, Tennant does a 'Brand' over the top version of McDowlles role with only 'Evil' Ed's character lacking the punch of Geoffreys original. The FX are good overall with some cool CGI transformations and overall to be honest a very good-paced remake of a personally high-rated film.
