The Last of the Summer Wine - Series 21 and 22 box set includes the last episodes that included Compo. It's the end of an era.
I have all series collected to date and have enjoyed every one of them equally. This one is excellent as always but also sad as it is the last time we see Compo who was the life and soul of every series. Excellent but also sad.
It may be series 21 and 22, but I've only watched the hour long special entitled Last Post and Pigeon, and the three half-hour episodes of Compo's Passing Trilogy. From Last Post and Pigeon I got the reason for Compo's antic disposition; the trauma of war. By the time we get to his funeral, I cried. Something about his character that stands for the real England. Free from comfortable. Free.
A continuation of an excellent series. Last of the Summer Wine only gets better with age. Frank Thornton carries on the tradition in his role as Truly of The Yard.
This series of Last of the Summer Wine has a lower quality that I have received from all the other Series that I have (Series 1 through to Series 22). If any more Series are produced on DVD thay should produce with a better picture standard of quality. The series is still great viewing for all ages.
We have enjoyed the final 3 episodes of the passing of Compo very much. Roy Clarke has made a tremendous farewell to a very dear person who will always stay in our memories. One foul point was that they have chosen his own son Tom to appear as the long lost son. It's all a bit tricky to turn the story in that direction. Of course Tom is the spitting image of his father, but the ladies who accompany him do not appeal to the audience. This last argument aside, we really love Last of the Summer Wine, as we have all 22 series in our possession. We look forward to numbers 23 and 24.
Another excellent DVD for my collection. Last of the Summer Wine is worth having if only for the Compo passing and funeral trilogy. Next one due later this month.
