Splinter Cell: Blacklist is certainly the best Splinter Cell since Chaos Theory!

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is a return to the series roots, Blacklist is arguably 'up there' with the series' best, Chaos Theory. Though this review might appear to be overly negative, practically everything else I didn't mention is far above average (soundtrack, gameplay etc). It's a very welcome return to what makes Splinter Cell a fantastic series. Below are simply what stood out: Level design: even though some levels are short cinematic chases with little room to move around in, these are the exception not the rule. One stand out in particular is the last single player level, which is on par with the fantastic Chinese Hotel level from Double Agent (which was unfortunately DA's only saving grace, but I digress). The return of movement speed control, prior to Conviction, one could adjust Sam's movement speed using the mouse wheel. It's been streamlined into a fast/slow toggle button; a solid improvement. There is no manual saving: quick save is conspicuously missing for the first time since the original Splinter Cell. It's a checkpoint system instead, with some really odd choices. The negative mouse acceleration and claustrophobic FOV when in first person (in multiplayer and certain moment in single player). Interact button does too many things - PC could've used a different button for melee. Sam will frequently decide closing a door is more important than punching the bad guy about to shoot him in the face. No Michael Ironside: I didn't think it would be a big deal, but it really was. The new VA mumbles a lot and doesn't fit Sam's aged looks. The textures are downright poor in some places, though models have a decent polygon count and animations are sleek and satisfying.Again, this review may appear to be overly negative, but this is probably the most bang-for-buck video game I've bought so far this year. I greatly recommend it!

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is the best tactic shooter after Hitman. It's epic feeling!
