Not bad

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

For a hack and slash devil may cry/gods of war clone its not bad, follows on from the second quite well and although I was initially put off by the "modern day" setting it does actually give you a fair bit of traditional castlevania setting. The controls and moves and flow of combat is very similar to the first one and has enough for button mashers and pro's to get decent combos out of it (although using the different weapons and combos are vastly more rewarding) and the story fits in with the whole series, if a little contrived and clichéd. If your a fan of the series its worth picking up, however if your not much for the genre of hack and slash combo platforming, you may want to walk away or start with the devil may cry series.

Excellent Game

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

Despite receiving poor reviews, I really like the game. The graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay is really good too. Zavvi were late in processing the pre-order (as usual) but eventually it arrived and I'm enjoying it so far.

Without having played the first Lords of Shadow i was suprised by the modern gameplay mechanics, good graphics and excellent music. I recommend buying this Game!

Summed up in one word... Meh

3 stars out of a maximum of 5

I really liked the first game and bought the sequel with lesser expectations after reading other online reviews. After the first 2 hours I really didn't like the game, so I left it and came back and decided to persevere... it still didn't make a difference. The open world, the modern setting, bizarre creatures, mechanics, and graphics, all just felt off. It's not say that the idea's aren't good, but by comparison they're just average and don't pay off. Which is a shame as the sequel wasn't rushed, and story premise was ok, but the execution is just average.

Great finale to the series

Lords of Shadow 2 is an excellent conclusion to the Lords of Shadow trilogy. If you have played the first two games you will definitely love this one. The game follows Dracula, now working with Zobek, in order to prevent the Satan's return to Earth. The gameplay elements remain mostly intact. Your main weapon is the shadow whip. You have two secondary weapons: the Void Sword (which restores health) and the Chaos Claws (which deal large amount of damage, but are slow). They work similarly to Light magic and Shadow magic in the first game. Dracula must fight with the servants of Satan and with his inner demons in order to save humanity. The story is compelling and very interesting. The visuals are amazing. The game looks great and has many performance boosts when compared to the first game. The vistas of the castle are amazing. Some of the boss fights are truly epic. The audio is also great. Robert Carlyle and Patrick Stewart are very convincing and play their parts amazingly. The music score composed by Oscar Arujo is epic. By listening to the music you can understand how epic this game is. The gameplay is also great. All of the great things from the first game are back: the excellent and challenging combat (switching between the various powers, dodging and the synchronized block), there are many more platforming sequences, puzzles (although simple). There are also some stealth sections. Some people find them frustrating, but I found them to be a nice change of pace. Lords of Shadow 2 encourages exploration. This is enhanced by the concept of an open world, which works very well. There are a lot of collectibles and upgrades. I liked this game a lot. If you are fan of action games (hack and slash) or you are a hardcore Castlevania fan, don't miss this game out. P.S. The sequence with the Toymaker is amazing. No spoilers.

Great Game

Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 is a really great game. I've enjoyed playing it. Some challenges were really difficult but fun to play. Maybe its not as good as the first Lords of Shadow but still worth in every collection.

i loved the first lords of shadow and had high hopes for the second part. so far it's not as good as the first game but it's improving through the game. i really like the parts when you are outside of the castle and can see how big it really is. thanks to zavvi for a fast delivery time and for the good prices.
