Bugs, Bugs Everywhere

2 stars out of a maximum of 5

It was buggy as hell. It became better after the second patch, but I didn't pre-ordered it so they could fix the bugs. I expected something like Shogun 2, which was awesome from first day. Also a lot of features either seem unfinished (like the politics one) or are entirely missing (family tree). It's the first Total War ever that I dropped playing right after its purchase and that say a lot.

Work as advertised: brilliant!

As a lover of the Latin culture and the Total War series I was eagerly awaiting this release. I have to say: I wasn't disappointed. It takes a bit of getting used to in the map view, but the combat is spot-on from the start. Every little detail is there: arrows stuck in walls, good looking animations and detailed models. The sea battles are even more awesome, just ramming the enemy to the bottom of the ocean. A minor point is the AI: especially when they attack your settlement they can be easily lured into staying put, leaving you with nothing to do but waiting for the timer to expire and claim your victory. That may take a while though, as fast forward is everything but fast (even on an brand new Alienware). In short: brilliant for lovers of the genre, good for advanced gamers.

rome 2

Short but crisp, nothing like advertised... At the moment the game feels like a giant beta test. A patch every week may be fine, but this was released at full prize and I thought due to the advertising machine sega pilled off it would be great. The game rears it ugly head and looks nothing like the videos or pictures CA and sega have pulled off. The AI developer was stating that the game has the most sophisticated artificial intelligence of any total war game yet. Let me describe this oh so good AI as: braindead. Maybe multiplayer could be a relief? It is not: lags drops desync everywhere and completely unbalanced units in my opinion.

Rome 2

Rome 2 has everything to be a great game. It has enormous game world, many different factions with different battle tactics and excelent graphics. But at this moment, it still needs some patches to run perfectly.

Rome 2 good

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

A great updated version of it's predecessor. A definite time investor of a game with a greater emphasis on building an empire from the inside as well as conquest via keeping your populations under control and balancing the powers within your factions political system to prevent or encourage civil war. Well recommended to veterans of the Total War series and anyone with the willingness to get swallowed up by a game.

Good but very buggy

Total War: Rome 2 is a great game, but this game is full of bugs. The AI is possibly the worst in a Total War game yet.
