This movie is a gem. It made me cry and yet made me also so hopeful about life and our human existence. Despite the fact that this movie deals with the topic of war and the fight for survival lot two siblings... it is mainly about the joyful and happy little moments spent together. A run on the beach, a little fruit drop ... It is a wonderful movie that shows how precious those little moments in life are, and that everything else is meaningless... This movie was one little precious moment for me and I wouldn't want to miss it for the world

Blu-ray is nicely presented in this slip package. This however is quite possibly the hardest to watch Studio Ghibli film across the whole run of the studio. There are no playful or whimsical portions like all the other Ghibli releases. It's hard hitting and powerful narrative, showing the realistic fallout of Japan near the end of WW2. If you're looking for a heavy and very sad war film then this one is for you.
