Although this Alfred Hitchcock box set says it is the 'Masterpiece Collection' the fact that what many consider to be one of his his masterpieces 'North By North West' is excluded along with 'Strangers On A Train' (also considered to be another masterpiece by many). These are in a separate 3 disc box set. I think many would have preferred these to have been included in a slightly larger set as all of Hitchcock's films can be considered masterpieces. That said, the quality of the transfers to bluray are excellent. The early black and white films shown no signs of age and are a pleasure to watch after the sometimes grainy hit and miss versions that are available out there. The sound is also better for it with the exception of 'Rope' which has been mentioned before for it's couple of dropouts (I can't remember if they were there in my original dvd copy or not, but it could be that the sound has been lost in time). Despite my comments, and it's purely subjective, this box set is essential for Hitchcock fans who want to enjoy the films all over again and, at the price I paid for it, a bargain despite not having 'North By North West'

I have to confess that I’ve bought this collection purely for a widescreen version of The Birds! As until I came across this set, I could only find 4:3 scan & pan versions, which honestly spoiled the viewing experience. After having read some of the other reviews, to find that The Birds was in 16:9 version, well that was all I needed. So I bought it. The added bonus of other of Hitch’s films available on Blu-ray sealed the deal. Nice idea of the book format. The product arrived in mint condition, due to the product being well packed in a strong cardboard box with air bags. Good price too, if you’re a fan of Hitchcock, this set is strongly recommended. Picture and sound in my opinion, excellent. Get it.

Each film in the Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection features excellent Blu-ray transfers. Some are slightly better than others but a vast improvement on the DVDs. It's also worth buying to get a copy of Marnie, Torn Curtain, Topaz and especially 'The Birds' finally in widescreen format. The previous DVD releases for these movies where 1.33:1 and so lost a lot of the picture. This is very highly recommended.

The discs are in a beautiful box. The box has pages like a book with the discs in the middle. Subtitles are white and they don't show very well.

Overall, a pretty solid set although Universal may have overstretched themselves with this one. The video quality of the transfers varies from great to poor (the poorer ones being the last 4 films in the set, making it seem as if Universal gave up trying towards the end). Some of the films definitely need a better, individual release but this is probably gonna be the definitive Hitchcock set for some time to come.

All the classics in one box and on Blu-Ray, what more can you ask for? It was great to relive my young day when in some cases I was scared witless, at least they have retained their originality. A perfect gift for someone or if you want to treat yourself and at a fantastic price!!

Really impresed with this fine box! Every movie has it´s own page with nice pictures and movie poster. And such a classic collection of movies. To Zavvis price I say Buy!! Recommended!

If all the movies are as good as the first 4 I will be happy.

This boxset is a must-have for every Hitchcock fan.The majority of his well known movies are included accompanied by some awesome artwork inside.The box itself is a hard cardboard one giving it a "classy" look,one that it deserves.It arrived in excellent condition,I highly recommend it!
