Series 3 of Sherlock returned with three brilliant - yet wildly different - episodes that carefully challenged expectations of what the creators might do, answering to the fan-fuelled speculations about what may have happened and what may happen in the future. Each series of Sherlock has proved that in a country obsessed with cheap reality television, when the right people get involved nobody makes programming quite like us. Unfortunately, these kind of shows come about too rarely in England and so should be applauded when they do. The performances and writing is brilliant as usual, but the directing in this series was superb; mesmerising production values that are usually reserved for hollywood, whilst never dropping pace or feeling laboured is quite an impressive achievement. The special features on this blu-ray show how inventive the series production team are and how dedicated they are to making a show of superior quality. I cannot wait until series 4.
