The Giant of Silent Comedy

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

This extraordinary 4 disc edition of the 32 comedys from the start in 1917 with Arbuckles The Butcher Boy up to The Love Nest in 1923. Shows in it´s diversity why Charlie Chaplin is overshadowed by Buster Keaton. THe made all his own stunts and what we see is what goes on, there was no digital technique and Keaton hated to cheat, it had to be for real. This explains his deadpan look, he once commented that it´s hard to be laughing and making comments when you have to comcentrate on a dangerous stunt. The Pork pie hat that he used in The Butchers Boy stuck and became one of his trademarks. Always trying to push the envelope. Today he´s regarded as the number one in silent comedy. Highly recommended for any serous fan of the silent era. Charlie Chaplin comes in as a good 2nd but Keaton is the one.
