Mediocre Yet Fun

The Howling was such a seminal werewolf film that it deserved a decent sequel. Alas, this was not it. The storyline had potential but was so badly handled that it eventually disappeared into a miasma of its own making. The author of the original book, Gary Brandner, was part of the team that brought this to the screen and, as such, it seems remarkable that he would let the film be made in this tawdry almost comedic manner. On the plus side, the film has Christopher Lee which always adds gravitas to any film but how he got mixed up in this is perplexing - I hope he got plenty of money for it. There is also Sybil Danning as werewolf queen Stirba which is certainly worth your viewing time although the treatment she gets at the end of the film is exploitation at its most extreme - and she alludes to this in an interview during one of the extras. In conclusion then, this film is just about worth your time once but I suspect most people won't watch it again although if you are a Sybil Danning fan then you will probably watch it again and again! Five out of ten.
