Beautiful steelbook of a great film and great service from zavvi.

One of the most controversial Video Nasty -era movies gets a stellar treatment from Arrow Films. The original cover art for Driller Killer is a classic in its own right, and it's nice to see Arrow using the original picture as their Steelbook cover. The contents are exactly same as with the regular BLURAY/DVD -combo release,but in this case the steelbook release is the way to go. Limited and once sold out the price is bound to skyrocket, making this a tasty collectors item. The movie might not be for all tastes, but for those who enjoy "grindhouse" -type of cinema it's a must. I'd also recommend the movie for movie buffs as it's something totally different from the norm and doesn't really have that much to do with horror genre in general. It's more like a cross between art-house and horror with a touch of cinema verite thrown in for a good measure. All the usual Abel Ferrara trademarks are in the movie, and it's interesting to be able to see how fully formed the themes and personal obsessions of Ferrara were already there in the 1979. For those who've seen the movie from VHS, or even from the previous dvd-releases the picture quality is bound to please. The image really benefits from the upgrade to high-definition. This is also the first time ever when it's possible to see the film in its longest form. When aArrow got the camera negative they found extra material - a totally different early cut of the movie, and it's included on this release. I also liked the clever way in which it's possible to watch the movie in either full screen or widescreen aspect ratio. It's hard to say which one is better as the framing suits both ratios. In full screen the image has a more "open" look, but then again the movie was originally shown widescreen in the movie theaters. It's small details like these that really set this release (and Arrow Films) from the competition. In short: This is THE Driller Killer release to own.
