What would Lubitsch do?

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Masters of Cinema has put together an excellent collection of films by a genius filmmaker. His comedies are funny without any contrived jokes, his dreams are vivid and his historical movies are filled with detail and sense for what he´s doing. Now onder Billy Wilder for one always asked himself when not 100% sure what to do, What would Lubitsch Do? I kind of agree with Mr Friedkin " Sorcerer" "The Exorcist" and "The French Connection" that the best cinema was made during the silent era (although they are not silent as there is music, just no talking. Like Ossi Oswalda in I don´t want to be a man, she´d be a superstar today as she´s got presence and is so full of life. And yes you can tell Lubitsch was a perfectionist. These are som of te movies from late 190 and early 1920 that has survived. Meticously restored without losing to much of their authenticity. And there is a booklet with writing on each film by various writers. A must have for any serious film lover.
