Solid upgrade on this one. It may not seem incredible at a first glance but when you go back and compare to the old Blu-ray you realize how compressed and clamped that one feels, and how much the HDR opens up the image, even if it's not a nit monster. The image feels much more real when you can properly make out all the clouds in the sky instead of just a hazy mass of white. Colors are rather different as well at times; similar to Whiplash it has mainly lost the green tint, but even more so than on that one. The HDR and the neutral colors make it a bit less cinematic than the Blu-ray, but for the documentary style it works pretty good (if there's one movie that could have benefited from HFR without the look being distracting, this might have been it.) Clarity is also noticeably improved apart from the HDR. Not only due to an uptick in sharpness—sometimes more, sometimes less—but the superior compression really solidifies and retains details much better, as well as the sensor noise.
I think this is a very different kind of sci-fi than the usual. It is based on fiction but feels soo real. Definitely a rewatchable movie with a good storyline, great CGI (especially considering the age of the movie) and you will surely be on the aliens side :) In 4k it is just become even better. If you are into sci-fi movies, you must see this as well.
Received this 4K Blu-ray on time as per estimated date.
What can I say that hasn't been said before except that the praise for this movie's sound, picture, and script are well deserved. This is a must-own title.
