It is difficult to describe ‘2001’ without touching on its classic status, however still today, it not only looks, but feels revolutionary. The extras with this blu-ray are also very good with not one, but four featurettes as well as an audio commentary. The slipcase the blu-ray comes with also looks pretty neat, although it has a fan art vibe. The slipcase however, whilst looks decent on the slipcase, does not look so good as an A3 poster that is also easily folded and ripped. I would much prefer either the original poster of the film or no poster at all. The product also arrived 2 days late, however I can excuse that because I am aware how busy the mail service has been due to COVID, however the lack of a collector’s booklet is inexcusable. Generally an excellent blu-ray that could improve with the physical extras. A very good value for money as well.
One of the classics of cinema - let alone science fiction - which looks breathtaking in 1080p. Both visuals and sound are fantastic and the film's attention to detail really shines. Not every part of it is aging well 50 years on, but it's incredible how current the Artificial Intelligence, commercial space travel and other aspects feel in the 21st century. It's long, moderately paced and sometimes obtuse, but that's part of what makes this film what it is. A true classic of design and film-making. And this Zavvi exclusive boxset is an absolute must buy!
