Ecco (narrated by George Sanders’ velvety tones) takes a worldwide - or mondo - look at the bizarre practices of various cultures. It follows the familiar locales seen in many sleazy travelogues of the period; strip-clubs, religious gatherings, ancient architecture, etc. It’s fun, informative and Sanders’ narration injects some much-needed levity into the proceedings. The bonus feature, The Forbidden, is not nearly as compelling; seemingly a Frankensteinien effort made from bits of a French pseudo-documentary and interspersed with American-filmed footage of nudie-bars and newsreel materials of a riot in L.A. Fun overall, but The Forbidden is an extra for a reason. Think of it as the placenta to Ecco’s baby.
