The steelbook to this is beautifully done and looks with full pictures to the front and the rear. The inside has the famous office room scene where ED-209 goes on a shooting spree so this is a nice steelbook presentation. The video quality is the best it can be, I feel, as there is still some film grain in there to keep the details and the right amount of dolby smoothing to make it look more crisp. I think they've got the balance right. You get both the theatrical and directors cut versions in the box.
Prior to owning the 4K steelbook, I believed it to be identical to the earlier 1080p blu steelbook. That isn't the case here. This time around the spot gloss on the front has been altered to the right way around, Robo and the police car now being glossy and the background matte. Blu steel had them vice versa. Unfortunately the cover finish was altered for the back cover as well, it's now matte while the blu steel had a glossy back. The film itself is as great as ever. For majority of the duration, picture quality of the 4K isn't a dramatic improvement over the previous Arrow blu because it was already as good as was possible to get from MGM's master in 1080p resolution but the unrated bits are now blended in much better by altering the brightness and colours of the overall scenes in the Director's cut. For the time being the UHD resolution offers the best quality from the current 4K master to view the film. A fresh scan with today's hardware most likely would bring further improvements.. Maybe one day.
This is a classic movie, that has now been restored to absolutely amazing 4K, and not only that, but this release contains both Director's Cut and Theatrical versions of the movie, with hours and hours of the bonus content spread on both UltraHD discs. And yeah, there is a booklet included inside the steelbook. Highly recommended!
Excellent film and worth the upgrade to 4K
Having already purchased the Blu-ray version of this I still went ahead and bought this new 4K UHD version as it is my favourite film. Although this release is exactly the same as the previous Blu-ray in terms of packaging and special features the Dolby Vision present here makes a noticeable difference in terms of colour and contrast. Also the new Dolby Atmos audio mix is a nice addition. Is it worth the upgrade? if your a fan of the movie like myself and know it too well, yes I think you will notice improvement. If not and you only have a passing interest the previous Arrow Blu-ray release will still satisfy.
Lovely steelbook for an old classic. The movie looks great on Dolby vision and package was delivered without a scratch. Highly recommended
Great quality picture, arrived in great condition!
Arrow hits the jackpot again with this superb steel and in 4k.... Proper artwork for the cover. Yes it's a repeat of the blu-ray artwork but if it's not broke why fix it?. Not notch transfer and I like the plastic j card which was easy to remove from the steelbook itself. The 4k is a marked step up from the blu-ray and certainly shines on my 4k TV and player. Fingers crossed we get The Thing at some stage from Arrow. Roll on Tremors in June....
Love the film, so happy to now have the steelbook in my collection awesome addition :-)
Can't think of a film more fitting to be presented in a steelbook. The titular cyborg of the title looks super awesome printed on metal. That iconic poster design takes me back to my childhood and the image quality of the movie is breath-taking. Full of great extra content too.
