Finally! After years of waiting. The Director's Cut which I prefer to the theatrical version. With the wonderful music by Jerry Goldsmith during the first viewing of the Enterprise and beyond. And all in 4K! A little dream come true. :-)

If there is one Star Trek film that deserves the 4k treatment to show off all its wonderful spender then its this one, Watch on the biggest telly you can, Plus now comes with new Dolby Atmos sound.

This box set is magnificently put together with 3 versions of the film (Theatrical, Special Longer version and Director’s Edition) in 4K, bluray and with a bonus bluray disc alongside a booklet, stickers, bumper stickers and lobby cards. Well presented but the absolute gem is the 4K restoration which makes a classic film feel new. It’s the best it’s ever looked at the pacing of the Director’s Edition is best but the other versions are of interest too for how they differ (slight changes, different musical cues). If you enjoyed Star Trek: The Motion Picture then this is the ultimate edition to get. Paramount have done a stellar job, so pop it into your player, dim the lights and head into the stars on the mission that started the motion picture franchise. Recommended!

I have been waiting for this box set for what seems like ages! A couple of moans though, the outer box is a little flimsy and can be easily dented and the longer version of the film is only in 2.0 Surround sound, so you cannot experience the complete adventure (!) as it should be like the other versions. The Directors edition on the 4k disc is in 7.1 surround, it's like being in the film! Overall though I am very happy with this box set and is worth getting.
