The 4K remaster is nothing short of stunning, picture-quality wise. The amount of never-before-seen detail recovered from the o-neg is far more that I ever imagined it would be. Not so good are the included English "subtitles". The only included subtitles stream are SDH subs, this means that everything is subtitled. Music, dialogue spoken in English, any off-screen sound. Examples (Operatic music playing), (indistinct voices whispering), (indistinct voices continue to whisper). SDH subs are great for those who need them. For those who don't they're an annoyance at best and a horrible distraction at worst. It's disappointing that Curzon didn't think to include standard English language subs alongside the SDH subs in their UK release. It genuinely impacts my viewing experience in a very negative way. I would like for them to do a disc swap with added standard English subs, but I know that won't happen. In short, an elating and disappointing release for me.
Well this was unexpected, originally announced as just a Blu-Ray release earlier this year we now get a masterpiece in 4K with a stunning steel to boot. Let's just hope that Region B in the info is an error on Zavvi's end and not this is one of the few 4K's that is actually region locked.
