Continuing the story of the Russell Crow character - this time through his "son". More blood, fights and a most unconvincing walk-on performance from Denzel Washington.- a good pay-day for him. In short, I found it lacked substance.

I first saw this in the cinema , a magnificent spectacle. The sets were so life like. Having seen gladiator one it did not matter if you never saw it cause this film was a story was in his self.. I can whole heart recommend this room

Well, as a big fan (though critical of its flaws) of the original Gladiator I didn’t really see the point of Gladiator II’s existence, but having heard a few decent reviews, I thought I would check it out anyway. Well Paul Mescal does his passionate and fiery best, but he can’t really match Russel Crowe’s older, hard bitten general who becomes a slave, but nor should he, but he does a decent job in a limited role which basically requires him to be a  Maximus clone for most of the movie. Great to see Connie Neilson return as Lucilla, though the addition of her being the husband of Pedro Pascal’s Acasius’ a bit unnecessary and tacked on. Caracalla and Geta were not very memorable bad guys, which considering their real history is surprising, though with Denzel Washington filling the villain role you can’t really complain. I enjoyed this movie, despite its repetitive storyline from the first one, but it’s not one I’d watch as many times as I’ve seen the first one. In summary, if you’re a fan of Gladiator and the Ridley Scott world of Rome then give it a go, it’s not as bad as it could have been, but nothing new here at all really.
