I've waited a long time to get Starman in a good quality release and finally it's here, the Steelbook is lovely but the AV on this disc is out of this world (pun intended). I hadn't seen this in years and I forgotten how emotional a film it is, it's about loss, grief, love and second chances, it's a sci-fi but that's almost incidental. If you don't shed tears watching this then I'm afraid you're dead inside. Highly recommended.

Starman is pure Eighties sci-fi with a love story twist, and this 4K presentation is nothing short of breathtaking. Even after all these years the effects still look incredible. Jeff Bridges, Karen Allen and Charles Martin Smith put in superb performances, elevating the film above its simple premise and creating a moving story full of warmth, heart and quiet profundity. A treat for fans of John Carpenter, Jeff Bridges, sci-fi or Eighties movies. Take your pick and enjoy!

John Carpenter's Starman is something of a forgotten gem and it's never looked better than this glorious 4K Blu-ray. It's easily one of the best-looking movies in my library with a flawless 4K transfer that really brings out the fine image detail and rich colours. For a film I first watched on VHS this is quite the upgrade. The extras disc is pretty stacked too with deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and some recent interviews with cast & crew. The highlight is a fun and insightful audio commentary from John Carpenter and Jeff Bridges who are clearly very proud of the film and enjoyed working together. A sci-fi road movie, Starman is thrilling, heart-warming and full of wonderful 80's VFX that still stand up over 40-years later. Jeff Bridges deservedly got an Oscar-nomination for his performance as the stranded alien and Karen Allen is excellent as the grieving widow tasked with getting him from Wisconsin to Arizona before time runs out. Special mention too for Jack Nitzche's score which has a central theme you'll be humming for days after. At its core, Starman is a love story but it's also a film that explores the meaning of love, of kindness and friendship, and ultimately what is it to be human. It's a beautiful and moving film and as a big John Carpenter fan it's nice to see him doing something a little different. Highly recommended.

a heartbreaking film, perfectly shot with an amazing score! the transfer is first class. Great steelbook too and delivered with no dents by ZAvvi. Nice job.

This film has never looked or sounded so good. Its a story of lose love and a hope for the future. Its a different one for carpenter to direct , and it is executed beautifully. A must upgrade to 4k.

This was always a film I loved as a child and this is one of the best 4K transfers of a 1980s film I've seen in some time. The steelbook is also a standout, with great artwork throughout and it was delivered earlier than originally communicated by Zavvi. If you like John Carpenter, this is a must have.
