A collection of films from one of the greratest directors cinema has known, many say THE best, Alfred Hitchcock. Firstly the collection offers great value for money, but for the avid collector, keep in mind that the boxing and casing is nothing to get excited about. However, most films include a very decent selection of extras, most of which are definately worth watching wether you are a Hitchcock fan or just delving a bit deeper into the film you just watched. Musically most of these films offer vivid and colourful scores, especially the Bernard Herrman scores to Vertigo, Psycho etc. But most will be interested in the picture, which in all the films, especially those of the later years, is clean and clear, many of these are restored prints. All the films in the collection are well worth watching, but heres a few that stand out: Psycho: Seen by most of us. A classic in suspense and red herrings. Solid performances and still one of the greatest 'horror' films out there. Classic score, great picture, a must see. Marnie: Early Bond-era Sean Connery steals the show as a suave yet sadistic buisnessman who becomes infactuated with Marnie (Tippi Hedren) when she steals from him. Interesting look into the human psyche in terms of why we do what we do etc. And some very interesting new (for the time) camera techniques used too. Some great lines from Connery in top form, and some great suspense scenes. Not considered a Hitchcock classic, but a little gem of a film. Vertigo: Terrific rooftop opening to perhaps Hitchcocks most accomplished film. James Stewart is a detective who suffers from Vertigo and has to quit. But an 'old friend' has him follow his wife, leading to a thrill ride of techniqe, intrigue, romance, mystery and a great soundtrack. The titles, as with many of the films in this set, are by Saul Bass, of Bond Titles fame... Rope: All set in one flat and in real time. Its obvious where Hitchcock has connected his takes but he does so so it appears we are watching one long continuous tracking shot. Plot wise and acting wise you will be gripped from the get-go. A must see and way ahead of its time. Requires viewing. Rear window: Jimmy Stewart again. In a wheelchair. Getting suspicious... A well known classic. If you haven't seen it, it is well worth a go. The Birds: May seem perhaps a bit dated to some now. But still has impact, and a soundtrack made purely of bird noises. Scary stuff... Will make you see the birds outside a bit different for a few days. Overall if you do not own any of these films and want to start watching or own Hitchcock, then this is a great boxset at a great price and definately one to pick up. Only lost a star for the packaging, which at the price, is actually fine, just not, like most of the films it contains, outstanding.

Very happy with my purchase. Ordered it to Finland and it arrived before the estimated time. Four stars because I think the packaging could be better. Only thing that protected the box set was the thin cardboard box it came in.
