Albert Finney and Peter Ustinoff have tried portraying Poirot on film, unfortunately for them David Suchet has made the role his own. He is the definitive Poirot as Jeremy Brett was the definitive 'period' Sherlock Holmes. Hoestly I am embarrassed for Finney and Ustinoff when I catch a glimpse of either of them trying to play Poirot. It's like seeing an impressionist doing a bad impression and expecting applause for it.
