This was the first time I'd watched The Quiller Memorandum since its release. Made in 1966, this is a classic spy story of the walled-in West Berlin Cold War era with a theme of a residual dissident Third Reich enclave. That seems a bit bizarre now, that there were real Nazis around in '66, not Neo Nazis. Location and studio shooting give an authentic view of the city, fashions and automobiles...some very classy Porches and DHC Mercedes. Also watch-out for the 30's Neo-Classical granite indoor swimming pool. UK intelligence (Control) Alec Guinness gives good if occasionally slightly camp rendition from a 21st Century perspective. George Segal..(I had a suit like that) is also believable is his quest to sniff out the Nazi gang...In my opinion some scenes lacked a bit from the direction point of view...but very good is the car chase and the interrogation of our hero while under truth drugs...needles bit quite scary! Actually a bit of a tricky story-line, so good to have on DVD for a second watch. Unforgettable background music..Classic Matt Munroe.."Wednesday's Child" ....Definately 4 stars...Rich.
