Quite simply one of the greatest comic performances of all time. Rossiter captures the frustration and ennui of everyday suburban life in the Britain of the 1970s. It also questions the importance of the everyday things we take for granted. His gradual slide into 'comic madness', aided in no small part by his domineering boss CJ, his longing for a sexual liaison with his secretary Joan and the monotony of his daily commute into the City. This series says so much about the futility of ambition, the hopelessness of routine and one man's desire to start his life again.
This collection is a classic.Having worked in a similar job in the seventies I recognised all of the characters especially CJ. The torture of giving a presentation entitled 'Are we Getting our just Desserts' sums up PR which spawned our present Prime Minister David Cameron. The descent into mid-life crisis and the fling with Joan also seemed familiar, followed by the escapism into surrealism. A hilarious series acted by brilliant characters.
Thoroughly enjoyed the series ,Can be enjoyed time after time .Great for a laugh at any time !!!!
