Duty Free - The Complete Series

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

This 80s sitcom may not be politically correct or clever in it's writing, but is a good piece for its time. It shows not just two families on a holiday with a marital twist, but it gives an insight into the time and the boundaries of class breaking down. I don't believe it's as good as Eric Chappell's other comedy, Rising Damp, though. It does seem to have aged a bit. Gwen Taylor is the best by far out of the lot, and Kieth Barron, her husband, annoys you sometimes, but it's in a purposeful, good way. It's a joy to watch, even though you sometimes have to take it tongue-in-cheek. It's still a quality piece for its time, and I definitely recommend it.

The Benidorm of the 1980s!

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Classic 1980s comedy starring Keith Barron (David) and Gwen Taylor (Amy) holidaying in Spain attempting to forget about David's recent redundancy. David falls for the charms of the beautiful Linda who is looking to spice up her holiday with dull husband Robert. My favourite episode is 'Close Up' which features Judith Chalmers and the 'Wish you were here ...?' team filming in the hotel. If you were only to watch one episode this would be the one! Classic. There is also a Christmas special - 'A Duty Free Christmas'.
