Speed is a great film, with excellent picture and sound quality on Blu-ray.

Chances are most of you will be familiar with the film itself. Speed is a modern classic of the action genre, providing easy and exciting (if slightly implausible) entertainment, and a handful of likeable characters that you can actually care about. The blu-ray itself shows really excellent picture detail, if slightly inconsistent. Colours are vibrant and realistic, but the picture occasionally softens roughly concurrent with the age of the film. Although not up to the higher standards of some of the Fox catalogue titles, this is certainly a marked improvement on the DVD. Where this disc really shines though, is in the Audio department. Being quite a bombastic movie, you want your speakers to really be given a run for their money, and Speed does not disappoint. Excellent directionality (notably in the early elevator scene) and plenty of oomph in the bottom end make this a good movie to show off your surround sound system with. Not brimming with extras, Speed has a few borderline useless features such as Search Content, although there is an interesting on screen trivia track and 2 Audio Commentaries provided, plus a handful of trailers and java enabled online content.
