  • Description

    The Great Escape:

In 1943, the Germans opened Stalag Luft North, a maximum security prisoner-of-war camp, designed to hold even the craftiest escape artists. In doing so, however, the Nazis unwittingly assembled the finest escape team in military history - brilliantly portrayed here by Steve McQueen, James Garner, Charles Bronson and James Coburn - who worked on what became the largest prison breakout ever attempted. One of the most ingenious and suspenseful adventure films of all time, The Great Escape is a masterful collaboration between director John Sturges (The Magnificent Seven), screenwriters James Clavell (Shogun) and W.R. Burnett (Little Caesar), and composer Elmer Bernstein.

    The Magnificent Seven:

In the blistering heat of the Mexican sierra, a village trembles in fear - waiting for the savage onslaught from Calvera (Eli Wallach) and his bandidos. Terrorised, robbed, humiliated, the villagers are desperate to hit back and set off for the American border to buy guns. But in thier quest they come across seven awesome weapons of destruction: a group of hard-riding, mercenary Western gunmen who will ride with them to the village and take out the bandidos. Led by Chris Adams (Yul Brymner), the seven find themselves plunged into a terrifying struggle - and a fight for the life of the village. In this classic Western, inspired by the Seven Samurai of Japan, Brymner - together with a cast of the calibre of Steve McQueen, Charles Bronsan and Horst Buchholz - fire the first bullets in a fight to the death.

    The Thomas Crown Affair:

Thomas Crown (Steve McQueen) is a lone wolf in chic clothing. He's a Boston tycoon who masterminds a daring bank job, even though he doesn't need the money. What he needs is the thrill of the heist, the adrenaline rush of not getting caught. Catching crooks is where insurance investigator Vicky Anderson (Faye Dunaway) comes in. She always gets her man. But this time she may be too much in love to give him up. McQueen and Dunaway are lovers and adversaries in a stylish cat-and-mouse thriller written by Alan R. Trustmas and directed by Norman Jewison (In The Heat Of The Night, Moonstruck). Jewison makes exciting use of split-screen images as the action leaps from the boardroom to the boudoir, the polo field to a glider cockpit. The Oscar. Winning Best Song 'The Windmills Of Your Mind' sets the perfect tone for the swirl of romance and intrigue.

    The Sand Pebbles:

The Sand Pebbles tells many storied. It's the story of China, a slumbering giant that rouses itself to the cries of it's people - and of the Americans who are caught in the bloody awakening. It's the story of French (Richard Attenborough), a crewman on the U.S.S San Pablo who kidnaps his Chinese bride from the auction block. Most of all, it's the story of Jake Holman (Steve McQueen), a sailor who has given up trying to make peace with anything - including himself. Nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for McQueen, The Sand Pebbles blends explosive action with stirring drama and romance.
