It's easy to forget that this Spartan, violent film, which begat the Rambo series, was such a big hit in 1982 because it was a good movie. Green Beret vet John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) wanders into the wrong small town to find a fellow 'Nam buddy and gets the living heck kicked out of him by the local law enforcement (led by Brian Dennehy). The vet strikes back the only way he knows how, leading to a visceral, if unrealistic, flight and fight through the local mountains. Based on the 1972 novel by David Morrell, this film saved Stallone's then-foundering career and the Rambo character became the inspiration for countless political cartoons. But this film is Deliverance without the moral ambiguity.

There is nothing new to say about Rambo: First Blood - Zavvi Exclusive Limited Edition Steelbook, it's very beautifully re-packaged in a steelbook. Fans know what they have in this old school classic movie.
As soon as I seem the Stallone classic in Steelbook I knew I had to order it. I wasn't disappointed when it dropped through the letterbox. It's a beautifully designed Steelbook and captures the movie. The film quality is brilliant and I am now considering the others to complete the collection!

Great Steelbook for a big movie.
Forget the rest of the films in the Rambo franchise this first movie stands head and shoulders above the others. A low budget film offering an opinion on the treatment of war veterans (in this case Vietnam vets) plus a view of small town America that I think chimes with many people . The action builds nice and slowly through to the climatic conclusion, all the actors perform well, the script is tight (and provides many quotable lines), and the cinematography is impressive. The Bluray transfer is very good indeed and the fact that there are two discs means that even if you don't have a Bluray player you can always buy this steelbook for the DVD version that is present. The steelbook itself is lovely and looks great "on the shelf", so all in all a great buy. Go on, you know you want to.
Rambo First Blood was always going to look good on Blu-ray. It's a nice transfer, and the steelbook case looks epic. There is a smattering of extra features, but not that many - there is no in depth making of or anything like that. Just a couple of TV spots etc. However, this is an old movie so there may not have been the stock footage available that all us movie lovers look for. This is well worth the buy to see Sly strutting his stuff!
Rambo: First Blood is a good film, it's a nice steelbook and a great edition for any collector.
