Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning is the revolutionary open world action role playing game brought to you by the dynamic team of New York Times best selling author R. A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn and artist of Spider Man. These two icons in popular cult fiction have designed a visually breathtaking world steeped in over 10, 000 years of history, all for you to enjoy and explore. You are the Fateless Hero, awaking to find yourself resurrected; you have been brought back to life, and are no longer bound by the tapestry of Fate.

Character development and customisation plays a big part in this game, with four playable races to choose from: Almain (noble humans), Varani (nomadic humans), Dokkalfar (dark elves), and Ljosalfar (light elves). Once you have chosen, you may pick a class tree through which to grow your skills: Might (warrior), Finesse (rogue), and Sorcery (mage). There are dozens of unique skills and abilities you can obtain as you play, and an innovative aspect of this game is that you can easily re-allocate these skill and ability points, allowing you to truly tailor your character to your specifications.

The fierce, third person battles you will encounter in this game boast an action magic combat system, with button timing presses and quick time events that unfold within each fight. You will gain Fate from each opponent you defeat which will add up to fill a bar; when this bar has been filled to the max, you will enter Reckoning mode. When in Reckoning mode, your character will gain extra experience points from every kill you make, and will be able to perform Fateshift attacks. These attacks are exciting finishing moves that allow you to ultimately decimate your opponent in greatly excruciating and graphical detail. When in battle, you will also have the ability to fluidly switch between your primary and secondary weapon with ease. There are also nine different melee weapon classes to choose from, making combat all that more exciting and versatile.

As you have been reborn with a blank slate, you can now also make your own Destiny using the Destiny System, and unlock more as you play through the game. These Destinies allow you to hybrid classes, taking the best aspects from each to make the most brutal and unstoppable character in the whole world of Amalur. Begin your journey now, and change both the Fate and the world of Amalur as you know it.(Cat Emerson)

Really good fun

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Whilst this isnt an rpg in the sense you can effect the main story outcome you do have a large degree of control when it comes too what you want to say, talk to and definitely when you want to do things. I love that the game has been set up so that people can fully develop magic etc or spread across two or more disciplines and still recieve really good bonuses for doing so meaning that in terms of combat the skys the limit for how you want to set things up for your character. Its definitely worth getting the game guide for this from amazon because there is a wealth of hidden stuff and great intricate combat detail in there to apply to the game that makes you fully realise how important timing is in what originally seems like a button basher. I loved this game and the replay value is massive, there is also a couple of large expansions out already via PSN that are a reasonable £7. The game reminds me in every good way about fable (the original) except the game is 10 times the size and thus the fun.

More than Decent

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning is enjoyable and quite addictive! Plays very much like an MMO but with a far better combat system. Really liked the fictional world the game was set in too.

Kingdoms Of Amalur is an awesome action game, with classic RPG traits. Combat is a lot of fun and graphics look great. Having a blast playing it. A real good purchase considering it's low price.

Solid RPG

KOA is a very nice game. The gameplay reminds a little the Oblivion/Skyrim style, but it's a little simpler and colorful. Dozen and dozen of missions and submissions that after a while look almost the same, but the character customization is good and it's fun to play overall.

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning is very similar to Oblivion and Skyrim but it is the best in this series. Bright colours, comfortable control, interesting missions. I got a real pleasure playing this game!

good game, good service department

3 stars out of a maximum of 5

On regards of the game itself, the games is ok... not the best game of the kind, as there are lots of games of the same type out there, nothing really original, but still good to game for hours and have an amusing time. The service department of Zavvi was great. Now I'm enjoying good hours of fun.
