This show has such a simple premise; a student finds a notebook and discovers that if he writes a person's name in it, they will die. Fortunately there are rules to the deathnote and these are fully exploited over the course of the show. What makes the show fun is that the lead character is essentially the villain yet you can't help but admire his intelligence and ingenuity throughout (it's a bit like an animated "Dexter" at times). When L, the super detective gets involved the show gets really interested as the two characters get locked into an intense battle of wits that will constantly have you saying "I'll just watch one more episode". The only thing stopping this from getting a perfect score is the lousy middle arc with the amnesia, 2nd deathnote holder, and the death of a favourite chracter. Fortunately the first and final arc are strong enough to overlook the middle arc though and the penultimate episide has one of the best cliffhangers ever. An anime show you can confidently give to friends.
Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects - and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal...or his life?
