The Yakuza saga is excellent, and this spin-off, Yakuza: Dead Souls is great! Buy it!

Yakuza: Dead Souls

This game is very Japanese in a good and bad ways. The story is lacking, tongue in cheek, self-referential and a fun ride. with some good cut scenes for the main story and plenty of side stuff to plump up the time that can be spent with the four characters you can play as. But game play wise, it struggles with the series roots of being a brawler, by having a third person shooter dumped on top. Its a shame, this game could of been great, but strange design decisions that feel very Japanese with the gameplay and control side of things ruin everything else going for the game. I had fun but wouldn't recommend it unless you either know its something you like or want to try out a game that would probably never be made in the west. There is nothing quite like these game, but your better of trying Yakuza 3 or 4 to test the waters for your tastes.

Had a lot of potential..

As a fan of Yakuza 3 and 4 I had a lot of high hopes for this game. The game is fun but there are some noticeable differences. For a start the combat is all shooting based as opposed to hand to hand. Weapons can be used but usually will only temporarily stun the zombies so you will be relying on guns. This is where the main problem comes in. The shooting mechanics are poor, the camera gets in the way and you often find yourself shooting the wall, the camera snaps to behind your character rather than where the enemies are and locking on isnt accurate, It gets very frustrating and as a result Im not sure if I will be able to complete the game. Its a real shame as the story seems interesting and I have completed Yakuza 3 and 4 without any camera or control issues. In conclusion think before you buy, may be worth checking videos on YouTube to see the mechanics before you buy. If you can get past the controls then its a good game, but the controls really do make it a chore to play!

Yakuza: Dead Souls is super cool. It's not like any of the others in the series, but is very entertaining nonetheless.

Loads of shooters, loads of zombies, it's absolutely ace son. Chat up hostesses, play darts, go bowling and blow the walking dead to pieces. Buy it now before it's gone!

A good attempt at making the series different but not as good as the older series, great price

Fun Game.

The actual Yakuza game itself is wonderful and would have been fantastic if they had implemented multiplayer. Lots of stuff to do, with great mini games and lots of zombies to destroy in various ways. Gotta love levelling up your character and the weapons. Overall, it is an extension of the Yakuza series which only fans will put up with. A chance to bring new fans into the series has been messed up by Sega with an awful control system and the lack of multiplayer is very disappointing.

Yakuza: Dead Souls

I love the Yakuza game series. I've played every game, and this title is different, not only for the bizarre story twist, which works well with the humour these games has, but also, the action sections are gun based. The only thing negative, while an interesting change, is that it gets very repetitive exploring the same sections of the game with dodgy camera angles and respawning zombies. After the first few hours, you get used to it, but it still doesn't rival stomping on a downed enemy's face. Anyway, if your a Yakuza fan, I say you should buy it. It might take a bit of getting used to, but it's a nice change of pace, if a bit of a frustrating at times. Overall, it's a cool game, well worth buying and has a lot of mini games, which alone is hours worth of fun.
